MDPI Strengthens Commitment to Sustainable Fisheries at 2025 Annual Meeting & Capacity Building

Denpasar, Bali – Masyarakat dan Perikanan Indonesia (MDPI) hosted its Annual Meeting and Capacity Building 2025 at Bintang Bali Resort, Kuta, from February 25–27, 2025. With the theme “Respecting Commitment,” the event aimed to strengthen internal dedication and enhance the capacity of MDPI staff in advancing sustainable fisheries practices.

MDPI Director Yasmine Simbolon opened the event with a message of motivation and optimism. “With the theme ‘Respecting Commitment,’ we reaffirm our shared dedication to MDPI’s values, championing sustainable fisheries and improving the well-being of the coastal communities we serve,” she stated. Simbolon also underscored the crucial role of each staff member’s commitment in achieving MDPI’s vision and mission.

Designed to strengthen teamwork, boost motivation, and build staff confidence, the event featured expert-led sessions on best practices and key industry insights. Capacity-building workshops covered MDPI’s 2025-2030 strategic plan, knowledge management, the role of fisheries data, financial literacy, and interactive activities to internalize MDPI’s core values.

Staff from 13 regional offices actively participated, embracing the opportunity for growth and collaboration.

“Throughout this event, I’ve gained valuable insights—understanding MDPI’s 2025-2030 roadmap, stakeholder mapping, communication styles within teams, and financial management. These skills will be essential for my fieldwork,” said Siti Zulaeha, MDPI Livelihood Officer in Tanjung Kramat Village, Gorontalo.

Other field staff echoed similar sentiments. “I’m grateful to reconnect with the MDPI family. We exchanged knowledge and learned effective communication techniques, which I’ll apply when working with fishers,” added Sahril, MDPI Field Staff in Bone.

As a cornerstone of MDPI’s annual agenda, the Annual Meeting & Capacity Building serves as a platform to strengthen the team, enhance professional capabilities, and reignite passion for the organization’s mission. It also ensures alignment across teams, equipping staff with the tools and knowledge needed to navigate industry challenges in their respective regions.

MDPI’s commitment to internal growth and collaboration remains critical. Strengthening coordination, communication, and teamwork will be key to achieving its goal: fostering a sustainable fisheries sector and improving the livelihoods of the communities it serves.
