MDPI Celebrates 11 Inspiring Years with “Pulau Plastik” Screenings to Raise Environmental Awareness

MDPI is proud to announce the celebration of its 11th anniversary with the theme “11 Inspiring Years.” This year’s celebration features two key activities: an internal session led by MDPI Director Yasmine Simbolon and the simultaneous screening of the documentary film “Pulau Plastik” across eight provinces where MDPI operates.
As part of the anniversary celebration, Director Yasmine Simbolon addressed all MDPI staff in the provinces of Bali, North Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Gorontalo, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, and North Maluku. This virtual message aimed to reinforce the spirit and commitment of the entire team in supporting MDPI’s sustainable fisheries programs, which have been in place for over a decade.
“On this special day, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported and collaborated with us. MDPI has overcome numerous challenges and achieved extraordinary milestones in our efforts to preserve sustainable fisheries and empower coastal communities in Indonesia,” said Yasmine Simbolon in a press statement on Wednesday (31/7).
As part of the celebration, MDPI organized the simultaneous screening of the documentary film “Pulau Plastik” in the eight provinces where it operates. This film serves as a vital medium to raise awareness among coastal communities about the issue of plastic waste pollution. Through effective communication strategies, MDPI aims to help these communities understand the severe impact of plastic waste pollution and develop robust waste management systems in their villages.
MDPI is committed to fostering strong awareness among coastal communities about plastic waste pollution. Additionally, MDPI helps these communities build the capacity to establish effective waste management systems. Through various communication channels, MDPI endeavors to enhance the awareness of coastal communities about the serious consequences of plastic waste pollution and promote the establishment of proper waste management systems.
With the theme “11 Inspiring Years,” MDPI hopes to continue inspiring Indonesia’s fishing communities to prioritize sustainable fisheries. This anniversary celebration also serves as an opportunity to strengthen awareness among coastal communities and the academic community about the critical issue of plastic waste pollution.
“My hope for ’11 Inspiring Years’ is that we can continue to strengthen collaboration and reach more coastal communities eager to progress. I believe that with the spirit of togetherness and dedication, we will be able to face various challenges in the future and continue to make a significant positive impact,” said Yasmine Simbolon.
