Position: Field Implementer
Location: Karangasem, Bali

MDPI seeks a Field Implementer to support and implement activities that empower coastal communities in sustainable ecosystem and fisheries management. This role works directly with community members, local governments, private sectors, and partners to promote sustainable livelihoods, provide training, and monitor project outcomes. The Field Implementer will collect data, ensure program alignment with MDPI’s mission and values, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to advance fieldwork goals.
Role and Responsibility
1. Community Engagement and Support
- Represent MDPI by accurately conveying projects’ objectives and activities to stakeholders and communities in the area, while assisting in implementing MDPI’s program activities in the field.
- Engage with local communities to build mutual trust, understanding, and support for the project objectives, facilitating active participation within the program.
- Serve as a resource and liaison between the community and the organization, addressing issues, gathering feedback, and supporting project adjustments as needed.
- Conduct community outreach sessions, helping to facilitate the independence of fisher groups to raise awareness about sustainable practices in fisheries and ecosystem management.
2. Program Implementation
- Conduct on-site activities aligned with project plans, including training sessions, workshops, and community meetings that promote local engagement.
- Support the technical implementation of the project, including monitoring fisheries management practices and assisting in resource allocation.
- Collaborate with community leaders to design solutions that align with local needs and the organization’s goals.
- Implement MDPI’s programs at project sites in alignment with the organization’s vision, mission, and values.
3. Data Collection and Reporting
- Collect fisheries data using the port sampling methodology outlined in the Side Port Protocol
and upload it into a data-based system to be able to produce reports periodically and regularly. - Ensure timely and accurate data collection.
- Perform regular assessments to monitor program impact, prepare reports with insights on program improvements and adaptations.
- Document challenges, successes, and lessons learned to enhance program effectiveness.
4. Capacity Building and Training
- Facilitate training sessions for community members on sustainable ecosystem and fisheries management, building local knowledge and skills.
- Identify training needs within the community and coordinate capacity-building activities with the Program Lead.
- Empower community members by providing ongoing support, guidance, and resources to encourage sustainable practices.
5. Stakeholder Collaboration
- Collaborate with local government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to align project activities with broader community development goals.
- Attend meetings with local stakeholders to represent the organization and gather insights on local needs and priorities.
- Foster partnerships with local entities to enhance project impact and sustainability.
6. Problem Solving and Adaptation
- Address challenges in field operations promptly, coordinating with the Program Lead to adjust strategies as necessary.
- Proactively identify areas for improvement in the program and suggest practical solutions to enhance field activities.
- Adapt activities to the local context, ensuring cultural sensitivity and program effectiveness across different situations.
- Conduct weekly and monthly site meetings with the team to evaluate ongoing activities and plan for the following week.
7. Compliance with Organizational Reporting Requirements
- Prepare individual reports in line with responsibilities, including attendance, system documentation, activity reports, leave applications, reimbursements, financial reporting, and other tasks in a timely, accurate, and valid manner.
- Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries Science or related fields.
- At least 1 year of experience in a similar position or with an NGO, or recent graduate.
- Excellent computer skills, especially in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).
- High standards in activity reporting, with accountability and precision.
- Proficient in formal Indonesian and capable of clear communication in English.
- Detail-oriented, highly initiative-driven, and organized.
- Strong team player.
- Skilled in problem-solving and adaptable in various situations.
- Able to work effectively in a dynamic and active organization.
- Willing to travel to project sites across Indonesia and work overtime when required.
- Experience working with small or large-scale community groups.
- Strong communication and presentation skills for engaging with external parties, including but not limited to government, academics, project partners, private sector (processors, suppliers, and fish distributors), fisher groups, coastal communities, and donors.
- Indonesian nationality, preferably from the Bali Province.
- Strong interest in developing small-scale fisheries communities.
