MDPI was founded in July 2013 as an independent foundation focused on achieving responsible and sustainable fisheries activities and attempting to provide on-going care for the conservation of fisheries resources and ecosystems of Indonesia and the region.

Small-scale artisanal fisheries are the main focus of MDPI’s work. We support the development of the fishing communities and supply chains of these fisheries through programs that support economic improvements and social stability for the people. These activities are conducted within the supply chain of varied seafood products by supporting industry to ‘do the right thing’ regarding sustainability, social aspects and other market- driven demands.

An important aspect of our work is building networks and partnerships with various organizations, such as national and international universities, district, central and provincial governments, development agencies, NGOs, nationally- and internationally-based industry and others. We feel that together we are stronger and the wider the spectrum of work towards sustainability the quicker and more successful the path towards it will be.

Supply chain department are the “glue” that connects each stake holder on aspects related to producing a transparent, traceable and high quality product. We focus on engaging and supporting private sector in the seafood industry from fishermen to consumers on the topic of traceability and food safety and quality.

The main program under this department:

  1. Traceability

Traceability is a tool to show the good things that done relate to MDPI program such as Fairtrade COC, Sustainability (MSC COC), Food safety, etc.

This department running 3 years project consumer facing traceability, which call IFITT

Also as addition of IFITT program, we run project Technology Innovation towards sustainability in Indonesia’s tuna supply chains. The project aims to develop a Traceability-Based Technology (TBT) platform that creates bidirectional information exchange between Indonesian fishermen, processors and traders

  1. Vessel registration

Regarding transparency and legality, our department support Fishery Improvement department to ensure all vessel under Data collection program registered on I-Fish data base with Vessel Identifier Code, National Record of Vessels Authorized to Fish Within Indonesia Archipelagic Waters (RVIA), Proactive Vessel Registry (PVR) under The International Seafood Sustainability Foundations (ISSF) . We also support small scale fisheries in Maluku area specifically to get license.

  1. Food Safety and Quality

Food safety and Quality is the main component once producing the product no matter how many fish available if not support with good quality and food safety it cannot be consumed. Therefore, our development strengthens our stakeholder to maintain and improving their handling to get food safety and quality through such collaboration program for training and workshop about this topic.

Project focus of this position is for customization software that already running in field.  The software is a technology for sustainability in Indonesia’s supply chain that can be installed in small and medium sized processing facilities called Tally O.
Tally O is an open source, internal traceability system. The aim of this technology is to improve efficiency of data recording, reducing human error, real time data and improve traceability of production lots and increase the ease with which production reports can be produced by eliminating paper based tallying . This system is based on a local area network and combines different hardware constellations, various combinations of tablet/laptop as terminal, electronic weigh scales, label printers and scanners to create digitized and automated data collection within the processing company, in order to reduce data errors and improve the efficiency.

To manage the Tally O and other related supply chain software technology, MDPI is seeking for a Software Engineer with below detail:

Job title: Software Engineer

Location base: Denpasar, Bali

Report to: Director of Program and Supply Chain Manager

Essential Skills and Abilities:  

  • Working experience with Ubuntu Linux or related operating system
  • A solid understanding of how web applications work including security, session management, and best development practices
  • Writing well designed, testable, efficient code by using best software development practices
  • Familiarity with at least one of the following programming languages: PHP, Javascript, AngularJs
  • Excellent knowledge of Relational Databases and SQL.
  • RDBMS schema design and development and experience designing/implementing high performance Web services using REST
  • Network knowledge capable of installing, maintaining monitoring and performing diagnostics of network equipment and processes which includes software, servers, backups, file sharing, printers, digital scale, and must have Associates degree (or higher) in an IT field with relevant experience at least 5 years or more.
  • Aggressive problem diagnosis and creative problem solving skills.

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor degree in Computer Science and Engineering, Teknik Informatika, Manajemen Informatika, Matematika pemusatan studi Komputasi.
