Coloring Competition for Kids to Commemorate Indonesia Independence Day
Masyarakat dan Perikanan Indonesia (MDPI) held a coloring contest for elementary school students of SDN 03 Oeba on August 20, 2016 to celebrate Indonesia Independence Day. The competition was attended by 41 students. To open, MDPI team gave a brief explanation about the importance of knowing the type of fish and marine animals that are protected, such as turtles, sharks, dolphins, whales, birds and what the role of these animals in the environment. The MDPI team also screened a video about the bad impact of waste and garbage to the sea. This information was deemed important for the kids, due to the need for an increase in their awareness about environmental issues from early age. After this session, MDPI team started the coloring competition, assisted by the teachers.
The winners of the competition are: Cahaya, Rendy Dethan, Lice Bulan, Alvaro and Elzi. They received small prizes from MDPI. MDPI also distributed some books as gifts for the quiz session in the class. The teachers are very welcome and they are very happy to be involved in this kind of activity. They hope MDPI will continue to conduct informative activities in the school in the future. MDPI would like to thank SDN 03 Oeba for giving us an opportunity to spread the fishery knowledge to the future generation.
